Recorded Webinar: The Science Behind Breakfast: An Up-to-Date Review

Suggested CDR Learning Codes: 4020, 4030, 9020, 9050; Level 2

It's frequently referred to as "the most important meal of the day." But why? Although the benefits of breakfast are frequently discussed and widely studied, these discussions and studies are based on varied concepts of the term "breakfast." Because there is no common consensus as to the standard constituents of a quality breakfast, misunderstandings relating to breakfast are more common than many dietitians may realize. This webinar provides an up-to-date review of the scientific literature relating to the benefits of breakfast. In the context of this discussion, our presenters examine the differences in the meal components on which studies have been conducted. They provide an overview of proposed criteria of a quality breakfast that can be used by both researchers and nutrition professionals.

The live version of this webinar was presented by Carol Byrd-Bredbenner, PhD, RD, FAND, and Holley Grainger, MS, RD, on Thursday, October 30, 2014, at 2 pm EDT. This recorded version is approved for one hour of continuing education credit. RDs should list code 175, Recorded Pre-Approved Self-Study Materials, for this activity type.
