Webinar: Benefits of Reducing Sugar and Carbs: Beyond Weight Loss

August 16, 2023

Using population level data, scientists have begun to understand how consumption of certain types of sugars and carbohydrates may influence health. This research is backed by multiple quality randomized controlled trials focused on reducing the overall glycemic load of the diet by limiting refined carbohydrates and sugar with study participants. While dietary patterns reduced in sugar and carbohydrates are often viewed as a means for weight loss, this recent data suggests dietary patterns containing less free sugars and refined carbohydrates may offer a plethora of health benefits.

Join Jonathan Clinthorne, PhD, and Kristin Kirkpatrick, MS, RD, on Wednesday, August 16, 2023, from 2-3 p.m. ET for a complimentary webinar that will review what these recent studies have demonstrated and cover the dietary changes that can be implemented to reflect the scientific literature. The duo will also discuss controversies, evidence gaps, and practical considerations when advising clients on adapting dietary patterns.

Learning Objectives

After completing this continuing education activity, health care professionals and clinicians will be better able to:

  1. Summarize the body of literature that demonstrates an association between sugar and refined carbohydrate consumption and a variety of negative health outcomes.
  2. Describe the evidence supporting the use of well-constructed lower carbohydrate or glycemic load diets in patients with multiple health concerns.
  3. Counsel patients on the practical aspects of implementing a sugar- and carbohydrate-restricted approach.
