Webinar: The Power of Protein in Diabetes & Weight Management

March 22, 2023

This webinar was presented on March 22, 2023, from 2-3 pm. ET.

Healthy eating is a key modifiable risk factor for type 2 diabetes and obesity. Although medical nutrition therapy aims to target overall diet quality, much of the nutrition education for diabetes and obesity has focused on carbohydrate and fat, which begs the question: what about protein?

People generally understand that protein is important, yet they don’t know the ideal amount and types of protein to consume. Additionally, there is much confusion about how dietary protein affects glycemia, kidney function, and other related measures.

Join Holly Moran, MS, RD, LD, CDCES, on Wednesday, March 22, 2023, from 2-3pm ET, as she explores current protein intake recommendations, how dietary protein affects diabetes- and weight-related measures, and how protein can be more easily integrated in a healthy eating pattern.

Learning Objectives

After attending this session, nutrition professionals should be able to:

  1. Recommend types of proteins and intake amounts to patients with diabetes and weight management goals based on the latest guidelines.
  2. Explain how protein intake affects glycemia, insulin, satiety, and weight.
  3. Identify various types and sources of protein and describe current trends in protein intake.
  4. Select and recommend nutrition shakes for supplemental or substitutive protein intake.
