As leaders in the health and wellness space, dietitians have the opportunity to utilize functional testing to understand the root cause of health imbalances. Join Sarah Greenfield, RD, CSSD, on Wednesday, February 19, 2020 from 2-3 p.m. ET, as she discusses how stool testing can provide greater insights into digestive health imbalances due to its role in immune response, creating vitamins, hormones and neurotransmitters, increasing antioxidant capacity, and creating a barrier between what we eat and what we absorb.
Sarah will share the research and explain how poop can be our daily “report card,” helping us understand what’s going on in our bodies. She will also discuss complimentary actions RDs and clients can take, including stool testing as a way of understanding the physiological data, as well as the science behind stool testing, its limitations, and how RDs can make the best use of it in their practice.
After completing this continuing education course, nutrition professionals should be able to:
- Evaluate common GI imbalances like small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO), dysbiosis, and leaky gut.
- Examine and understand clinical biomarkers and functional stool tests to assess digestive function.
- Use the Bristol stool chart and understand what it shows about the microbiome.
- Use dietary modifications, including supplements, to help rebalance the gut microbiome.
