Eating meals together as a family is magical. It nurtures both the body and the soul by fostering good eating habits, a healthy body weight in children and adolescents, a reduced risk of eating disorders, and better grades in school. Current data show that while 30% of families eat dinner together every night, most still struggle to make family meals a regular reality. As food and nutrition professionals, we're positioned to teach the public the how-tos for both creating nourishing meals and coming together more often when the dinner bell rings. With real-world strategies from some of the nation's top family nutrition experts and her own busy kitchen, Liz presents the barriers that sabotage family mealtime and creative ways RDNs can guide their clients back to the table.

Learning Objectives

After attending this session, nutrition professionals should be able to:

  1. List and discuss evidence-based benefits to eating family meals together.
  2. Understand the most common barriers to family mealtime.
  3. Identify and implement creative strategies for helping families increase the frequency of eating meals together.
