Symposium Session: Ethics for All in a Sometimes Unethical World in 2023

Join Dianne Polly for a fun and interactive discussion regarding the Code of Ethics for dietitians and nutritionists. As an attorney and a dietitian, Dianne will differentiate between personal, business, and professional ethics. Dianne will lead attendees through an enjoyable review and determination of ethical violations using current, relevant case studies. This session is worth 1.0 ethics CPEU.*

This is not a webinar or course for purchase - this is a module for credit claiming for our 2023 Spring Symposium attendees and cannot be purchased or taken by non-attendees. These sessions are exclusive to our Symposium; however, the topics may be revisited in the future in the form of a webinar or self-study course.

Learning Objectives

After completing this continuing education activity, health care professionals will be better able to:

  1. Distinguish between personal and professional ethics.
  2. Employ critical thinking skills to resolve potential ethical violations in real case studies.
  3. State which basic ethical principles and standards apply in various case studies. 
  4. Identify and explain the process to pursue an ethics complaint.

Dianne Polly is both an attorney and dietitian. She resides in St. Pete Beach, Florida, and has served as Speaker of the House of Delegates for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND), President and Delegate of Tennessee AND. On the national level she served on the Ethics Committee from 2008-2011, serving as chair the last year. She is a frequent national lecturer on ethics and legal issues facing allied health professionals. She has taught many nutrition courses at the college level. She is a foodie and a world championship BBQ judge. 

Dianne likes to run and recently completed a 10K and half marathon last winter. She has two daughters, a husband of many years, and a naughty Welsh Terrier dog called Briso. She enjoys traveling and playing Words with Friends. Dianne holds a bachelor’s and master’s in Adult Education from the University of Nebraska and a Juris Doctorate from the University of Memphis.
