This continuing education course discusses how RDs can play a vital role in helping people achieve sustainable weight loss, given their extensive knowledge of the biological responses to weight change.

Learning Objectives
After completing this continuing education course, nutrition professionals should be better able to:
- Distinguish the primary hormones that affect hunger and appetite.
- Define adaptive thermogenesis.
- Evaluate the role of the gut microbiome in weight management.
- Analyze the research on dieters years after they’ve lost a significant amount of weight.

Course content was written by Jamie Rinaldi, an RDN with a Master of Science in Applied Physiology and Nutrition, practicing since 2001. She is a regional dietitian for Nutrition Management Services and a writer for SoulFIRE Health, a website that provides educational materials to be utilized by dietitians, health coaches, and other clinical professionals.
