The Potential Impact of Cannabidiol on Gut Health (Gut Health Bundle)
This course will provide an overview of cannabidiol (CBD) as it relates to gastrointesti-nal health. Potential types of treatments utilizing CBD will be discussed. Properties of different types of CBD, as well as how this may change gut microbiota, will be ex-plored. This course will home in on how CBD can be used as part of the treatment for symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome, inflammatory bowel disease, and colorectal cancer.
Learning Objectives
After completing this continuing education activity, health care professionals will be able to:
- Explore the role of cannabidiol (CBD) with the interdisciplinary team as it relates to gut health.
- Identify different potential uses/treatments of CBD for irritable bowel syndrome, inflammatory bowel disease, and colon cancer.
- State three ways an RDN can incorporate CBD into a patient’s treatment plan in conjunction with the interdisciplinary team.

Course content was written by Lauren Botelho, MS, RD, LDN, a dietitian in the Boston area. Botelho has worked in inpatient settings, outpatient settings, and long term care. She has a BFA in writing, literature, and publishing, and is a freelance nutrition writer. Additionally, Botelho recently became a family nurse practitioner and plans to specialize in gastroenterology.
