Zinc Deficiency in Children

This continuing education course describes the role zinc plays in the body, especially in the growth and development of children, and guides RDs in identifying, preventing, and managing deficiency.

Learning Objectives

After completing this continuing education course, nutrition professionals should be better able to:

  1. State at least three functions of zinc in the body.
  2. Name at least four causes of zinc deficiency in infants and children.
  3. Describe consequences of zinc deficiency in infants and children.
  4. Analyze different ways pediatric patients can be evaluated for zinc deficiency.
  5. Teach patients how to include adequate zinc in the diet.
