Recorded Webinar: Nutritional Considerations in the Era of GLP-1R Agonists

GLP-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1RAs) have been used in medicine for several decades and now new, long-acting versions of these medications are approved for the treatment of overweight and obesity. Clinicians have seen a rapid increase in use of these medications, which has led to a resurgence in patients’ interest in weight loss. Clinical trial data suggests that GLP-1R agonists are highly effective, with efficacy rates approaching that of bariatric surgery. However, with significant weight loss comes an increased need for nutritional guidance to help patients maintain quality of life and avoid nutritional deficiencies commonly observed during caloric restriction.

Join Jonathan Clinthorne, PhD, and Kristin Kirkpatrick, MS, RD, for a complimentary webinar that will review clinical research on GLP-1 receptor agonists, discuss individualized nutritional approaches that may help different patients, and provide a deeper understanding of how anti-obesity medications (AOM) may shape the health and nutrition landscape of the future.

Learning Objectives

After completing this activity, nutrition professionals will better be able to:

  1. Discuss the different GLP-1 receptor agonists and understand their use as anti-obesity medications.
  2. Describe how these medications compare to other weight loss interventions and how previous clinical concepts are still applicable to patient populations struggling with overweight and obesity.
  3. Review practical aspects of personalizing nutrition advice for different patients using GLP-1 receptor agonists based on the available scientific evidence.
