On Tuesday, August 19, from 1-2 p.m. ET, Michelle Cardel, PhD, MS, RD, FTOS, and Travis Masterson, PhD, will explore the impact dietitians can have in supporting their clients’ sustainable habits, including the role of animal protein. New research will be shared on consumer behavior before and during GLP-1 use, highlighting opportunities and challenges when aligning nutrition strategy with evolving preferences.

Additional Information
Michelle Cardel, PhD, MS, RD, FTOS, is a nutrition scientist, registered dietitian, and Chief Nutrition Officer at WeightWatchers. She also serves as a faculty member at the University of Florida, where she co-directs the Center for Integrative Cardiovascular and Metabolic Diseases. At WeightWatchers, Dr. Cardel leads clinical trials, the program innovation team, and the nutrition and food database. Her team shapes the organization’s nutrition strategy using the latest science, develops evidence-based programs, and ensures the most cutting-edge science is integrated into member programs and content.
A Fellow of The Obesity Society, Dr. Cardel has authored over 125 publications in high-impact journals like JAMA, JAMA Pediatrics, AJCN, and Obesity. Her numerous accolades include the University of Alabama (UAB) Outstanding Woman Award, the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Excellence in Emerging Outcomes Research Award, UAB’s Young Alumni Rising Star Award, and The Obesity Society’s Practitioner of the Year Award for Excellence in Clinical Care and Management of Obesity.
Travis Masterson, PhD, is the Director of the Health, Ingestive Behavior, and Technology Laboratory and the Broadhurst Career Development Professor for the Study of Health Promotion and Disease Prevention at The Pennsylvania State University. His research focuses on food cue reactivity and how our food environment shapes our food choices and eating behaviors. His research particularly focuses on digital food and beverage marketing. He uses a variety of novel technologies and methodologies in his work including fMRI, immersive virtual reality (iVR), and ecological momentary assessment (EMA).
