Now more than ever adults are discovering the benefits of a plant-based lifestyle and choosing to adopt this disease-preventing diet. But what about the kids? Is a plant-based diet safe and beneficial for the entire family? While the Academy’s official statement is that well-planned vegan diets are healthy from infancy on, many RDs don’t feel comfortable adapting these popular diets for children.
On for the second and final webinar of this two-part series, Alexandra Caspero, MA, RD, CLT, RYT, reviews the basic nutritional knowledge that all dietitians should have in order to effectively counsel parents. She provides applicable tips for feeding kids and families, and highlight innovative ways to increase plant-based eating for all ages and dietary preferences.
After completing this continuing education course, nutrition professionals should be able to:
- Identify 5 nutrients of concern for infants and children who are adhering to a plant-based diet, and list specific ways to include these nutrients in the diet.
- Understand and create 3 meals that incorporate each nutrient of concern.
- Describe 4 ways to add more plant-based foods to kid-friendly meals.
- List supplement considerations for plant-based infants and children.
