The relationship between a child and their nutrition is complex. A positive relationship with food during childhood is closely associated with their relationship with food as they grow through adolescence and into adulthood. Encouraging a child toward a positive food environment is increasingly recognized as a way to prevent disordered eating and eating disorders.

Nutrition doesn't begin at the table. Nutrition begins in the mind. When a child is hesitant where food is concerned, the parent may want to bribe, reward, and otherwise pressure the child into eating something. This crosses an important but invisible boundary. Enter gentle nutrition exposure.

Join Yaffi Lvova, RDN, on Thursday, November 11, 2021, from 2–3 pm ET, for a webinar focused on how to make feeding more meaningful. It's not only taking your child shopping and including them in food prep. It's music and movement. It's drawing. It's watching a goldfish eat broccoli on YouTube. It's spending time together, exposing the child to the importance of nutrition and food enjoyment outside of the table setting, away from the pressure of the plate.

Learning Objectives

  1. Understand and analyze how the formative relationship with food impacts the adult relationship with food and associated health markers.
  2. Describe how a child’s relationship with food may help prevent disordered eating and eating disorders.
  3. Define and discuss food exposure and meaningful exposures.
  4. Facilitate nutrition interventions with parents by using a holistic and gentle approach.
  5. Strategize unconventional approaches that highlight the various positive attributes of food.
