This continuing education course reviews the different types of adipose tissue and their related functions. This course also focuses on the role human brown adipose tissue, a recently rediscovered type of adipose tissue, could play in the prevention of obesity and diabetes.
Learning Objectives
After completing this continuing education course, nutrition professionals should be better able to:
- State the relation between adipose tissue and chronic disease.
- Compare the different types of adipose tissue (white, brown, beige) in humans.
- Assess the role of brown adipose tissue as a target against obesity and diabetes.
- Explain the effect of different lifestyle interventions on adipose tissue metabolism.
