Symposium Session: Fighting Inflammation and Oxidative Stress: The Role of Orange Juice

This is not a webinar or course for purchase - this is a module for credit claiming for our 2022 Spring Symposium attendees and cannot be purchased or taken by non-attendees. These sessions are exclusive to our Symposium; however, the topics may be revisited in the future in the form of a webinar or self-study course.

100% orange juice is known for being one of the top dietary sources of vitamin C, a powerful antioxidant, and nearly the exclusive source of the polyphenol hesperidin, which has also been shown to have antioxidant activity and may help promote heart health. A recent systematic review and meta-analysis suggests 100% orange juice has the potential to help fight inflammation and oxidative stress in adults, paving the way for further research on the topic. Published in the journal, Advances of Nutrition, the analysis indicates drinking 100% orange juice may significantly reduce interleukin 6, a well-established marker of inflammation, in both healthy adults and adults at high risk of developing chronic diseases. These results add to other recently published studies concerning the positive role 100% orange juice can play in the diets of children and adults.
