Update on Caffeine and Health: Beyond the Basics (Self-Study Bundle)
This continuing education course reviews current evidence on caffeine’s effects on long-term health and well-being, with specific impact on neurodegenerative diseases, cancer risk, and pregnancy. This course provides updated recommendations nutrition professionals may use to educate and counsel clients about caffeine intake, its connection to impaired iron absorption, and practical interventions to reduce caffeine intake when indicated.
Learning Objectives
After completing this continuing education course, nutrition professionals should be better able to:
- Discuss updated recommendations for caffeine intake in healthy adult and vulnerable adult populations and recognize caffeine in its numerous forms and sources.
- Explain current research into caffeine’s role in the development and progression of neurodegenerative diseases, in risk or protection for certain cancers, and during pregnancy and lactation.
- Describe at least three interventions for caffeine-related impairment of iron absorption.
- Name three practical nutrition interventions to reduce caffeine intake.
